Math 'a' Magic Workshop
Coming soon...
On Monday 13th May P.5-P.7 children were treated to a fabulous Math'a'Magic workshop, organised and run by Cahoots NI and sponsored by Danske Bank. The children were captivated by magical Maths puzzles and were entertained by the amazing facilitators, whose enthusiasm was infectious. Lots of active participation by keen pupils and staff ensured that children had lots of opportunity to develop and extend their problem solving and thinking skills.
How did the Mathemagicians know the number of children who would put the stars in the 3 boxes?
How did they put Alex's watch into a magical wand?
How did Eoin find the spot with the X simply by chosing a random number and then counting clockwise and anti-clockwise to find it?
When Sophie's number was not initially 'worked out by 'mind reading' and we thought a trick had gone wrong, how did they get her answer by adding numbers in any direction on a Magic number square?
The box of 'DOOM' brought with it a taste of danger which the kids loved - the illusion of someone in a box getting swords pierced through it was used to illustrate yet another Maths puzzle. The children thoroughly embraced and enjoyed the workshop, questioning how the Mathemagicians did many of the Maths 'tricks' and couldn't wait to look through the Maths puzzle book to solve many of the challenges for themselves.
