Bridge Celebrates World Book Day 2015

Pupils at Bridge IPS enjoyed celebrating World Book Day with a fairy tale theme! P1 to P3 dressed up as their favourite book characters and each year group from P1 to P7 concentrated on exploring a traditional and classical tale.

Browse through some of the the photos below to see the fun we had exploring our chosen books by participating in a variety of drama, art, writing and many exciting activities.

Fun with Snow White and the Seven Dwarves in P.1

P.2 Enjoyed Reading The Ugly Duckling

We were working on the fairy tale “The Ugly Duckling” in P2. We listened to the story and wrote about the Ugly Duckling . We made ducks and swans in Art and Craft. We used Playdough to make ducks and models related to farms and Spring. We also completed a handling data activity where we had to stick the animal/insect with 2 legs, 4 legs etc onto the correct part of the grid. We had great fun and a lot of learning took place.

P.3 Follow Hansel and Gretel

Taking the theme of Fairy Tales, we read different versions of Hansel and Gretel. We then wrote our own versions and created some candy houses. We also practiced our speech bubble use adding the words for Hansel, Gretel and the witch. We then took part in a table quiz to see if we could recall the details of the story!

P.4 Explore Gulliver's Travels

P.5 Swing into the Jungle to Explore The Jungle Book

World Book Day was celebrated in our clasess by comparing and contrasting Walt Disney’s Jungle Book with an extract of Rudyard Kipling’s original.

Check out our photographs of the Jungle Book covers we created. We added a title to the front cover and spine, included the author and illustrator and a blurb for the back. We also outlined the main events, characters and setting.

P.6 Follow the Yellow Brick Road... With The Wizard of Oz

P.6 had lots of fun exploring the classic novel The Wizard of Oz by L. Frank Baum. Pupils compared the descriptive language used  to describe the magical world of Oz to J. K.Rowling's description of Diagon Alley from Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone.  Both classes followed the yellow brick road to create beautiful collages to decorate the classroom doors.  Following watching short extracts from the film version of the story we discussed how the world of Oz was depicted and compared it to more modern film techniques in Harry Potter.  Using our imaginations we also enjoyed designing and drawing our own magical worlds. Finally P.6T worked as a team to problem solve and create their very own scarecrow whilst P6S created their very own Tin man!  Lots of fun was had by all!

P.7 Follow  Mr Toad down the river in The Wind and the Willows

As part of our World Book Day celebrations in Primary 7 all pupils made Toad’s car. The classic story P7 were focusing on was Wind in the Willows by Kenneth Grahame. On Friday 6th March we had a technology day in P7. We all know Toad was a reckless creature and had many different cars – he certainly would have a lot to choose from in Primary 7. There were lots of different creative designs and Harry Murray’s was powered by an old electric toothbrush. Harry’s car travelled at quite a speed. Have a look at our finished designs!
